Thing 5: Flickr? I hardly know her...:) (Part II)

And now, to the "homework" portion of this assignment:

How might you use Flickr in your library or media center?

We're already using Flickr on our SJCPLS website to show how much fun our events are as well as show off our libraries. "A picture says a 1,000 words", as they say, and what better way to promote what you have to offer than to see it for yourself...from the convenience of your chair, even! Great for busting up myths of libraries being dark, outdated places, and library events for youth being "lame"...we can show off how much fun we have and how inviting our establishments truly are!

Do you use Flickr or another photo hosting service? Which one? How does it compare to Flickr?

I, personally, don't use another photo hosting service regularly, but I have used some photo sites in the past (Photobucket, Yahoo images, etc.) and none were as easy or as fun as Flickr...as I mentioned on my previous blog, Flickr solved a problem for me...could I find an easy-to-use photosharing site, and I did!

How do you feel about having your photos public (note that you can mark your Flickr photos private, too)--any concerns?

Despite being excited about my wedding and about the people and things I'm passionate about, I'm a pretty private person, so putting it "out there" is a little uncomfortable, but made more comfortable by the fact that the only people who know I'm doing this are those I work with...and we're pretty close quarters here at AI, so you learn to trust your shipmates, if you will! :) So I really like the private feature, if I ever decide to use this after "23 Things" in a more personal way.

From a professional standpoint, I'm pretty careful about what I put "out there" that can be publicly accessed due to working with children and teens. Not that I'm up to nefarious activities :p, however, I'm very conscious of being a role model to the children and teens I work with as they look up to me and can be impressionable. I also like to keep my private life private, but with regards to this opportunity, I feel I can share with my co-workers. The support network I feel I have in SJCPLS is a wonderful thing...thank you to all who are viewing my blog and enjoying it...and for the nice comments! :)
