Thing 10

Trying my best to catch up as the wedding is only 4 DAYS AWAY!!! Fortunately, I have an amazing co-hort in the form of Captain Rob who is not only super-nice but totally blowing me out of the water with the Things. Best of all, as he put it, he can make the learning mistakes and I can learn from him! hehe

Anyway...moving on to my thoughts on Tags and Delicious...while I appreciate tags for what they are--an attempt to help others find posts of a similar nature--I say "attempt" because unlike Library of Congress Subject Headings, you're dealing with something very subjective as each person creates their own tags from the perspective of what he or she thinks his or her post is about and how to best describe it. In other words, you're banking on your thought process being the same, thus not giving you all the hits you could. This could be frustrating for the user, but then again, if you're just casually cruising blogs, it isn't too much of a hindrance. If there were tags from which each blogger could only select, perhaps the rate of success would improve, as options to choose from, both for the blogger and the person searching the blogs.

As for Delicious, I didn't get the opportunity to scope it out to its fullest extent, but I certainly love the ability to pick up your saved favorite internet links wherever you are. To use a personal example, I had all the links for our vendors and our honeymoon lodgings saved as favorites, and it would have been nice, when I wasn't at home after work, to be able to pull those up anywhere. From a work perspective, the same perk would be enjoyed...you could be at another branch for a meeting and be able to access those weblinks you might need without having to do the work all over again of finding them in the first place.

I'd like to use my blog again to give a shout-out to all the AI Branch Library staff that is participating in 23 Things...we have 100% participation and that ROCKS!! :)
