Since I'm at work and about to go away for two and a half weeks, I won't post a YouTube video on here, but I will say I use YouTube a lot personally, so I feel pretty comfortable with it. I absolutely think it would be eyecatching on a website...it's certainly eyecatching on our library website! I like using YouTube to listen to music, primarily, and occasionally watch a funny Frasier episode while multi-tasking on the computer. Let me re-emphasize...this is all at HOME on my own personal time! :)
Something interesting I've noticed lately is that more YouTube videos are being blocked due to copyright...I'm surprised that didn't come up earlier. I imagine the movie makers out there are frustrated because so many special features from DVDs are being ripped onto YouTube thus, for some especially in this economy, relieving customers from the desire to buy the souped-up DVD of his/her favorite movie. The biggest rip-off right now I can think of is Twilight as there are about 5 different versions of that movie alone, the sole purpose being to extort the American public. There, I said it. :) That being said, especially in this economy, websites like YouTube are becoming, I would think, even more popular because you can get that fix of hearing your favorite song or seeing that elusive special feature from a DVD without having to buy the product...or even pay anything to view/listen to it! Maybe the "blocking" thing isn't totally copyright-related after all...:)
In regards to using YouTube on the library's website, given how sensory overloaded and attention-deficit our society has become, in my view, something that is fast, eyecatching, and low on text is bound to catch some people's attention and draw them in. With the other 1,783,945 technology options and the Internet out there to distract them, we need to be as eyecatching and alluring as we can be!
And note, I meant the websites, not the librarians!!!! :)
